If you experience fear or anxiety while visiting our dentists, we can provide you with oral conscious sedation to help you relax and feel at ease throughout your entire treatment. If you are receiving oral sedation, please have someone available to drive you to and from your appointment.

Nitrous oxide, otherwise known as “laughing gas” is a combination of two gases used to relax you and put you at ease. The nitrogen oxygen mixture is breathed in through a nose piece through the entire duration of the treatment. As you breathe in the sweet odor of the gas, it almost instantly gives you a euphoric sensation. Nitrous oxide sedation is extremely safe; the effects of the gases wear off within just a few minutes of breathing in straight oxygen.

Oral sedation is another form of conscious sedation administered in pill form. It is simple and easy to use because patients stay awake during treatment, but feel more relaxed and at ease. There are many benefits to oral sedation, including the amnesic effect after treatment, and the cost benefits are often lower than other sedative options. You may feel drowsy after the medication takes effect, so that’s why a driver is needed.

If you are interested in either of the conscious sedation methods, or have any questions please call so Dr. Freed, Dr. Wiebe, or Dr. Pranke can help with the decision process.
