No matter how well we take care of our teeth and no matter how diligent we are with scheduling and keeping regular dental appointments, accidents can happen. Dr. Freed, Dr. Wiebe, Dr. Pranke and our team understand how important it is to know what to do in those kinds of situations, so we have put together this information for your convenience. In any dental emergency, it is imperative that you visit our office as soon as possible.
Knocked Out Tooth
If a tooth becomes knocked out because of a blow or injury, rinse the root in water. Take care not to remove any attached tissue fragments. If possible, reinsert the tooth in its socket. Do not force the tooth in. If the tooth will not reinsert easily, store it in water or a cup of milk and bring it with you to our office.
Chipped Tooth
Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area. Use a cold compress on the face to reduce any swelling.
Toothache
In the case of a toothache, rinse your mouth with warm water and floss the area very gently and carefully to remove any food that may be trapped between the teeth. Do not apply aspirin to the tooth or the gums.
Bitten Tongue or Lip
Clean the area with a cold cloth as gently as possible. Use a cold compress to reduce any swelling. If there is heavy bleeding or if it doesn’t stop, visit our office or an emergency room as soon as you can.
