As you transform your smile, it is very important that you brush your teeth at least twice a day, if not more. Brushing will help you maintain a healthy and strong smile while the braces move your teeth. That way, you will have the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted once your treatment is completed.

Brushing is also important because your smile is more vulnerable to tooth decay when you have braces. The braces tend to hold onto the food you eat, and the plaque also builds up around and on the appliance. When these things happen, the plaque and bacteria begin to destroy your teeth. So, to help you brush properly and eliminate any dental issues, we encourage you to follow the provided brushing instructions:

Prepare to brush: Before you begin brushing, remove the elastics and any other removable section of your appliance.

Clean your braces: Hold your brush at a 45-degree angle and clean around the brackets, wires, and pins of your braces. Do your best to remove any food particles that are stuck.

Brush your teeth: Focus on cleaning each individual tooth by scrubbing the top, bottom, and inner sections of the tooth. Hold your brush at a 45-degree angle and first scrub the section of tooth that lies between your wire and gums. Use a circular motion while you do so. Then repeat this process with every section of the tooth as well as with the additional teeth in your smile.

If possible, keep your toothbrush with you throughout the day and brush after each meal and after you eat snacks. If you do so, your smile will be constantly clean and you won’t need to worry about embarrassing food-filled smile moments.
