Chris Freed, DDS
Dr. Chris Freed earned his dental degree from the University of Iowa in 2006. Prior to dental school, he completed his undergraduate education with honors, achieving a Bachelor of Science in microbiology. He continues to undergo extensive continuing education to remain on the cutting edge of dentistry, including courses through Spears Education, and has received advanced training in IV sedation and dental implants. He is a member of the American Dental Association and the South Dakota Dental Association.
Following dental school, he served as a navy dentist for four years and has been practicing in southeastern South Dakota for over five years. He is proud to offer all aspects of dentistry and help families develop and maintain healthy dentition. Dr. Freed strives to provide the most advanced, state-of-the-art dentistry and best possible craftsmanship. He does all aspects of dentistry, including root canals, oral surgery, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry.
Dentistry is among Dr. Freed’s greatest passions, alongside traveling and spending time with his family. He and his wife, Megan, have two daughters, Charli and Ellie, who keep him on his toes.
Lucas Wiebe, DDS
Dr. Wiebe grew up in Canton, South Dakota, and graduated from Canton High School. He is happy to be back in the small community where he grew up. In his free time, he loves to hunt and fish, so SE South Dakota is a perfect fit for him. Recently, he started to golf, and you may see him at Hiawatha Golf Club with his friends, working on his swing. He also enjoys bowling, snow-skiing, trapping, kayaking on the Big Sioux, camping, and watching football. In April 2017, he happily adopted a sweet little black Lab named “Ellie” and is having so much fun with her!
He enjoys all aspects of dentistry, developing relationships with families, and helping them achieve and maintain a healthy dentition. His goal is to perform excellent dentistry in a gentle and caring way.
Dr. Wiebe is a member of the American Dental Association and the South Dakota Dental Association. He completed his undergraduate degree at USD in Vermillion, where he earned his bachelor’s in biology. He earned his dental education at UNMC College of Dentistry in Lincoln, NE, and graduated in May 2016. While at school, he did special mission clinics and also enjoyed watching the Cornhuskers play football. He had a Pediatric Dental Clinic rotation and two rotations at the Canton Dental Clinic, where he learned invaluable experience working with Drs. Schulte, Olson, and Pranke. He likes to do all dental procedures, such as but not limited to root canals, extractions, cosmetic dentistry, and caring for children. Dr. Wiebe is happy to be back home in Canton and working at Canton Dental Clinic.
Laura Pranke DDS
Dr. Pranke was raised in the rural community of Newman Grove, NE, and completed undergraduate studies at Wayne State College. She earned her dental degree at the UNMC College of Dentistry. As a student at UNMC’s College of Dentistry, she was actively involved as a Nebraska Student Dental Association (NSDA) officer, allowing her to represent UNMC at many national conferences. She volunteered her clinical dental skills at People City’s Mission Medical Clinic in Lincoln and the Nebraska Mission of Mercy clinics. She also participated in a dental mission trip in Panahuara, Peru. In March of 2015, she completed an externship at Canton Dental Clinic and enjoyed getting acquainted with the clinic, patients, and community.
She continues her education by attending classes several times a year. She has taken advanced training progressive orthodontics and completed Invisalign® CE. She is a member of the South Dakota Dental Association and American Dental Association.
She and her husband, Steven, met in Lincoln, NE. After marrying, they soon made Canton their home. They are outdoor enthusiasts and love to ice fish, spend time at his family lake cabin, and travel. They enjoy cooking together, being active outdoors, and spending time with their families. Dr. Pranke enjoys living in Canton, being part of a smaller community, and practicing dentistry at Canton Dental Clinic and serving the Canton community and surrounding areas. As a dentist, she has always wanted to be a part of and practice in a smaller community.
Her goal and love as a dentist are to create smiles for her patients to be proud of, caring for her patients’ oral health, and watching their families grow as a part of our practice. She does all aspects of dentistry, including orthodontics, root canals, surgery, cosmetic, and restorative, and also loves working with children.
Gordon Schulte, DDS
In January 2017, Dr. Gordon Schulte sold Canton Dental Clinic to Dr. Chris Freed, and in April 2017, he retired from practice. We thank him for his expertise and many years of service in Canton, South Dakota, and surrounding areas, and wish him well as he moves into the next phase of his life.

Alecia – Registered Dental Hygienist
Alecia has been a member of our team at Canton Dental Clinic since 2006. She graduated from the University of South Dakota in 2003 with a degree in dental hygiene. She also received her Bachelor of Science degree in 2004. Alecia enjoys working in a practice that offers such a variety of services, and she loves giving each patient a warm, welcoming feeling when they come in for their appointments. She loves how her co-workers and the doctors treat everyone like family. Alecia is married and has three children. In her free time, she enjoys being with her family, being outdoors, and crafting.
Alyssa – Certified Dental Assistant
Alyssa joined our team in April 2016, and she brings a positive attitude to work every day. She graduated from Western Iowa Tech in May 2014, and she received her certification from the Dental Assisting National Board. As a dental assistant, Alyssa enjoys facing the everyday challenges that help her grow both as a person and a dental assistant. Alyssa was married in July 2016, and she and her husband started their family in September 2017. When she is not at work, Alyssa likes shopping and taking her dogs on walks.
Amanda – Dental Assistant
Amanda has been with Canton Dental Clinic since December 2016, but she has been practicing with Dr. Freed for a year before transitioning from Sioux Falls. She graduated from Colorado Technical University with the highest honors. She has an Associate of Science degree in medical assisting, and she was in the healthcare field for seven years before switching to dentistry. Amanda also has a license in dental radiology. Amanda is a hard worker, and she is quick and passionate about her job, which she believes helps patients feel more confident in her abilities and in the practice. Amanda is fluent in Spanish, which enables our Latino patients to receive excellent dental care, and helps our practice grow.
Amanda loves working with a team that is dedicated to ensuring that each patient has a wonderful experience and receives the best treatment possible. During college, Amanda never imagined herself working in the dental field, but she is happy to say that thanks to Dr. Freed, this has been the best career choice she has made. She cannot wait to see what the future holds for Canton Dental Clinic .
Angela – Financial Manager
Angela joined our team in 2014, and she always brings a good attitude to work. She received her degree in business economy from South Dakota State University in 2012. Angela likes the people she works with, and she loves the variety of jobs that she gets to do behind the scenes each day. When she comes to work, she brings the mindset that she is here to serve and help her co-workers. Angela married her husband, Tanner, in May 2017. When she is not working, she enjoys working out, biking, reading, hanging out with friends, and traveling.
Bridgette – Dental Assistant
Bridgette is one of our trusted and skilled dental assistants, and she has been with Canton Dental Clinic since 2014. She is a valuable asset to our practice and helps keep everything running smoothly. Bridgette is married to her husband, Tyler, and they have one daughter, Sloane. When she is not at work, Bridgette enjoys spending time with her friends and family.
Carissa – Dental Assistant
Carissa joined our team at Canton Dental Clinic in July 2017. She graduated from Lake Area Tech with her associate’s degree in dental assisting. Carissa enjoys working in the small-town atmosphere that our office provides. She often works behind the scenes to make sure everyone’s day runs smoothly, and to ensure that each patient has a positive experience. Carissa is married and has three children. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family.
Connie – Registered Dental Hygienist
Connie is one of our long-term team members, having joined our team in May 1994. She loves being part of a team that has fun together and provides a family-like atmosphere for patients. Connie loves what she does, and she is always happy to help out wherever she is needed, and she does so with a positive attitude.
Connie’s husband, Jeff, is a farmer who works with beef and crop production. Their oldest son, Jacob, is an electrician and powerline man who also loves to farm. Their next son, Vaughn, is a junior at NW College in Orange City, Iowa. There, he is playing football and earning his degree to be a Registered Nurse, after which he will work on getting his CRNA license. Connie’s third son, Eli, is a freshman in high school who loves sports, hunting, and farming. Finally, there is the family rhodesian ridgeback, Schatzi. When Connie is not at work, she enjoys reading, helping out on the farm, playing with Schatzi, and buying things from Amazon.
Danielle – Registered Dental Assistant
Danielle moved to the Canton area in February 2017, which is when she joined our team at Canton Dental Clinic ; however, she has been working with Dr. Freed since 2014. She received her associate’s degree in dental assisting from Lake Area Tech in Watertown, South Dakota. Danielle is a very go-with-the-flow person, which makes it possible for her to help out in both the front office and the back, which is very rewarding for her. Danielle particularly loves the small-town feel that Canton brings, and she loves getting to know her patients on a personal level. Danielle is the proud mom of two dogs and a cat.
Darcy – Certified Dental Assistant, Receptionist
Darcy has been with Canton Dental Clinic since 1997, and she loves it. In 2003, she received her National Dental Assisting License. To Darcy, the best part about Canton Dental Clinic is the patients and their families; she loves that she has been able to develop relationships with them over the years. Darcy and her husband, Ross, have two daughters and one son. Their daughter, Bridgette, who also works at Canton Dental Clinic , is married to Tyler, and they have one daughter, Sloane. Their son, Brett, is married to Kaylee, and their youngest daughter’s name is Brooklyn. When she is not at work, Darcy enjoys camping with the family, going ice fishing, and attending her daughter’s activities.
Gwen – Receptionist
Gwen has been a part of our team since 2002. As a receptionist, she tries to always have a positive attitude and treat everyone with kindness and respect. She has been a great asset to our team over the years, and we are happy to keep her around. Gwen and her husband, Chad, have three children: Cullen, Wyatt, and Katelyn. In her free time, Gwen enjoys watching her husband and boys tractor pull in the summer. She also attends her kids’ events throughout the year.
Jess – Registered Dental Assistant
Jess has been a part of our team since 2015. She graduated from Lake Area Tech in 2012 as a registered dental assistant. As a dental assistant, she enjoys focusing on each patient’s dental wants and needs. She also enjoys working in the friendly atmosphere at Canton Dental Clinic , where everyone is always smiling. Jess has two girls, Bella and Willow, and she enjoys reading in her free time.
Laurie – Office Manager, Receptionist
Laurie has been with Canton Dental Clinic for over 40 years. She is a lifelong Canton resident, and she is proud to be part of a practice that provides quality care, maintains a love of dentistry, honesty, and truly cares for people. She is also grateful for the community and her co-workers. She is blessed to have her son Dr. Lucas Wiebe back in Canton and practicing at Canton Dental Clinic. As our office manager, Laurie loves each person who comes into our office and also works behind the scenes with operations and scheduling. Laurie is the proud mother of two sons, Jess and Lucas, and a dog, Skittles. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family gardening, traveling, snow skiing, walking, spending time with her partner, Brett, and going on walks with Skittles.
Lottie – Certified Dental Assistant, OSHA/Infection Control Officer, Manager of Canton Dental Clinic Night Staff
Lottie has been with Canton Dental Clinic since 2005, and she is always making her patients laugh and smile while in our office. Lottie graduated from Southeastern Community College in Lincoln, NE in 2003 with a degree in dental assisting. In 2005, she received her National Dental Assisting License, and in 2007 she became certified in Zoom whitening. Lottie also received her OSHA compliance and training for medical and dental practices in 2009, and in 2017, she received training in sedation and anesthesia monitoring. Lottie has also received certificates for her volunteer efforts with Dakota Smiles Mobile Dental.
Lottie married the love of her life, Shaun, in 2013. Soon after, they started a small business called Steffen Electric, and they are watching it grow. Lottie and Shaun also have joint custody of a cat named Trucker, whom they share with her sister six months of every year due to allergies. In her free time, Lottie enjoys going to food and drink tastings. She is an amateur foodie who always loves a good hot dog. She also enjoys making photobooks, napping, and jamming out to 80s music.
Missy – Dental Assistant
Missy has been a part of our team at Canton Dental Clinic since 1999. She was trained on the job by Dr. Schulte and Dr. Freed. Missy likes the overall family feel that is in our office, as well as the compassion and care that everyone shows towards our patients. In addition, Missy enjoys learning new things every day as to how she can improve patient care. Missy and her husband, Pat, have one daughter, Mikayla. When she is not at work, Missy enjoys watching Mikayla at her school activities, going to the farmer’s market in the summer, and visiting and caring for her nephews and niece.
Shanna – Dental Hygienist
Shanna graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in dental hygiene. She also graduated from the dental assisting program at Lake Area Technical Institute in 2002. When she acquired her associate’s degree in dental assisting in 2004, she realized that she wanted to expand her professional skills in dental hygiene. In 2005, she entered the dental hygiene program at USD with great enthusiasm, and she graduated in May 2007. After graduating, she worked in the Sioux Falls area for three years, which led to her career at Canton Dental Clinic since 2010. To her, the best part about working at our practice is the warm, friendly environment.
Shanna grew up in Watertown, South Dakota, and she currently lives in the NW Iowa area. She is married with three wonderful children that keep her busy with all of their activities. As a mom, Shanna enjoys watching her children in ballet, football, basketball, baseball, and all other activities. She also enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Shannon – Clerical
Shannon joined our team at Canton Dental Clinic back in May 1990. She received her dental assisting degree from Lake Area Tech in Watertown, South Dakota. She loves that she gets to work with so many great people. Shannon and her husband, Seth, have two kids. Their daughter, Ellen, is married to Gordon, and they have three kids: Ember, Moses, and Ransom. Their son, Noah, is married to Ajla. Shannon also is the mother to a fur baby, Lucy. When she is not at work, Shannon enjoys reading, baking, and traveling with her husband.
Stacey – Dental Hygienist
Stacey joined our team back in 1992, and her time at our practice has led her to consider her co-workers as family. She also enjoys the fact that she has been able to get to know both patients and their families through the many years. Stacey always treats patients with kindness and compassion, and she enjoys educating patients about their dental needs. Stacey graduated from USD. She is married and the mother of a 19-year-old son, a 17-year-old daughter, a beagle, and a basset hound. In her spare time, Stacey enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and cooking.
Steph – Dental Hygienist
Steph originally joined our practice in 2000, and she stayed with us until 2009, when she moved to Idaho for two years. She returned to the Canton area and has been with our practice since 2011. Steph graduated from USD in 2000. She enjoys being part of a team that is full of caring people and provides high-quality dentistry. She does her part by keeping a positive attitude and doing her best to care for her patients. Steph has four children and four grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoys boating, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
Tami – Receptionist
Tami became a part of our team in 1982. With over 30 years in the same dental practice, she has really come to know our patients and their families, and she considers them part of her own family. Her loyalty to Canton Dental Clinic runs deep. Tami is the mother of three grown sons, and she has one grandson. When she is not at work, she enjoys gardening, canning, fishing, camping, and crafting.
