Meet Dr. Freed
Chris Freed, DDS
Dr. Chris Freed earned his dental degree from the University of Iowa in 2008. Prior to dental school, he completed his undergraduate education with honors, achieving a Bachelor of Science in microbiology. He continues to undergo extensive continuing education to remain on the cutting edge of dentistry, including courses through Spears Education, and has received advanced training in IV sedation and dental implants. He is a member of the American Dental Association and the South Dakota Dental Association.
Following dental school, he served as a navy dentist for four years and has been practicing in southeastern South Dakota for over five years. He is proud to offer all aspects of dentistry and help families develop and maintain healthy dentition. Dr. Freed strives to provide the most advanced, state-of-the-art dentistry and best possible craftsmanship. He does all aspects of dentistry, including root canals, oral surgery, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry.
Dentistry is among Dr. Freed’s greatest passions, alongside traveling and spending time with his family. He and his wife, Megan, have two daughters, Charli and Ellie, who keep him on his toes.
Meet Dr. Wiebe
Lucas Wiebe, DDS
Dr. Wiebe grew up in Canton, South Dakota, and graduated from Canton High School. He is happy to be back in the small community where he grew up. In his free time, he loves to hunt and fish, so SE South Dakota is a perfect fit for him. Recently, he started to golf, and you may see him at Hiawatha Golf Club with his friends, working on his swing. He also enjoys bowling, snow-skiing, trapping, kayaking on the Big Sioux, camping, and watching football. In April 2017, he happily adopted a sweet little black Lab named “Ellie” and is having so much fun with her!
He enjoys all aspects of dentistry, developing relationships with families, and helping them achieve and maintain a healthy dentition. His goal is to perform excellent dentistry in a gentle and caring way.
Dr. Wiebe is a member of the American Dental Association and the South Dakota Dental Association. He completed his undergraduate degree at USD in Vermillion, where he earned his bachelor’s in biology. He earned his dental education at UNMC College of Dentistry in Lincoln, NE, and graduated in May 2016. While at school, he did special mission clinics and also enjoyed watching the Cornhuskers play football. He had a Pediatric Dental Clinic rotation and two rotations at the Canton Dental Clinic, where he learned invaluable experience working with Drs. Schulte, and Pranke. He likes to do all dental procedures, such as but not limited to root canals, extractions, cosmetic dentistry, and caring for children. Dr. Wiebe is happy to be back home in Canton and working at Canton Dental Clinic.
Meet Dr. Pranke
Laura Pranke DDS
Dr. Pranke was raised in the rural community of Newman Grove, NE, and completed undergraduate studies at Wayne State College. She earned her dental degree at the UNMC College of Dentistry. As a student at UNMC’s College of Dentistry, she was actively involved as a Nebraska Student Dental Association (NSDA) officer, allowing her to represent UNMC at many national conferences. She volunteered her clinical dental skills at People City’s Mission Medical Clinic in Lincoln and the Nebraska Mission of Mercy clinics. She also participated in a dental mission trip in Panahuara, Peru. In March of 2015, she completed an externship at Canton Dental Clinic and enjoyed getting acquainted with the clinic, patients, and community.
She continues her education by attending classes several times a year. She has completed traditional orthodontic continuing education courses as well as Invisalign®. She is a member of the South Dakota Dental Association and American Dental Association.
She and her husband, Steven, met in Lincoln, NE. After marrying, they soon made Canton their home. They are outdoor enthusiasts and love to ice fish, spend time at his family lake cabin, and travel. They enjoy cooking together, being active outdoors, and spending time with their families. Dr. Pranke enjoys living in Canton, being part of a smaller community, and practicing dentistry at Canton Dental Clinic and serving the Canton community and surrounding areas. As a dentist, she has always wanted to be a part of and practice in a smaller community.
As a dentist, her passion is creating smiles for her patients to be proud of, caring for her patients’ oral health, and watching their families grow as a part of our practice. She does all aspects of dentistry, including orthodontics, root canals, surgery, cosmetic, and restorative, and also loves working with children.
Gordon Schulte, DDS
In January 2017, Dr. Gordon Schulte sold Canton Dental Clinic to Dr. Chris Freed, and in April 2017, he retired from practice. We thank him for his expertise and many years of service in Canton, South Dakota, and surrounding areas, and wish him well as he moves into the next phase of his life.
